Nationwide Fairer Share

Nationwide has announced their Fairer Share payment today. They are giving lots of members £100 each, including DP (for the first time), our two sons and me (for the 3rd or 4th time/year.

If you haven't qualified, it's too late for this year but you've got a few months to decide whether it's worth applying for accounts you don't have and juggling your money around - it doesn't take that long to research and do for £100. Though it is apparently counted as interest if you would pay tax on £100 extra interest.

It’s one reason I stick with them £100 a year is decent.

TressiliansStone · 21/05/2026 16:08

Happy Fairer Sharer here, too.Smile

Lovely thing to find in my inbox, all unexpected, this morning.

Tarkan · 21/05/2026 16:16

I completely forgot about it so the email was a lovely thing to see this morning. DH and I have a joint account and I can never remember if we get one each or not as I think some things they do we get twice and other things we don’t. 🙈

JustGiveMeReason · 21/05/2026 16:20

I might need to look into this.

I have a (fairly dormant) account with them, but haven't qualified for this ever.
I don't think it is given to people who have their credit card either.

Does it include mortgages with nationwide? Thanks

Yayyy! I just got the message on the app!

Belladog1 · 21/05/2026 16:28

I started banking with Nationwide just over a year ago and didn't know this happened. I was thrilled to receive my email this morning. Already planning on taking my partner out for a meal in our local pub with it when the money arrives

TressiliansStone · 21/05/2026 16:28

I notice that page also has a time-limited offer to switch your current a/c to Nationwide and get £175 for the switch.

They're not daft! They know folk will be looking today!

We got this last year with just a mortgage, but when I’ve just checked it says you need to have a current account as well…. 🤔

ilovebrie8 · 21/05/2026 16:39

Yeah I’m not sure I’ve got a mortgage with them but not a current account ? 🤔looks like you need a current account too.

AnneElliott · 21/05/2026 16:46

Really pleased to be getting this again. Yes I think you need to have a current account with them as well as either a savings account or a mortgage. DS is now encouraging his girlfriend to set up an account to hopefully benefit next year.

Last year they also paid out The Nationwide Big Thank You which was to all mortgage holders as well , so I got £100 from the fair share scheme as I have a current account with them, and then my husband and I got a £100 ( as it was £50 per person) for having the mortgage under the Big Thank You. It was to do with their merger with Virgin Money

Nearlyadoctor · 21/05/2026 19:27

@ilovebrie8- see previous post re mortgage holders

No, a credit card won't count - though I haven't had one I can use with them for a few years. You need to have a current account and either a mortgage or savings - and it's certain kinds of savings accounts. They did it the first time in 2023, and only DS2, then 14, got a payout - I had an ISA with most of my savings in it, but no current account with, DS1 had the wrong sort of savings account (a baby savings account with a passbook and his and my names on it didn't count) and DP had a current account but no savings! So I looked it up to see how it all worked and in 2024 and 2025 I and both the boys got it. This year I've suggested DP opens an instant access savings account and does what I do, putting some of his wages there on pay days - (it needed to be £100 or more on one day in March) and then taking it out when he runs out of money. He will earn very little interest other than that, and he pays on his overdraft, but the idea of a real incentive to at least try for, whether to blow on treats or to tuck away in a savings account is cool. I love that they pay it to our children too.

OP posts:
elkiedee · Yesterday 06:55

I am thinking of raiding my instant access savings to buy a ticket for the Women's Prize day of talks plus readings plus prize announcement in the evening, in central London. And the Fairer Share when it comes would then go back into savings, though I will probably then put it into my Nationwide Regular Saver to extract a little more interest from it.

If you prefer to keep your main current account where it is, this year and last, possibly 2024 too, you can just open an extra account, mine has a debit account but I said no, I am not asking for an overdraft facility as I only need one of them. I hate being overdrawn at all.

From 2024 (year 2 of the scheme) you don't have to put a minimum amount in - in 2023 the conditions referred to paying in £500 a month - though customers could just take it out again, as there is another way to show that your account is active.

I just had to make 10 qualifying transactions, debit card payments in shops, for transport, to other banks (my other current account), Parentpay or to kids directly for lunches when they had a choice of buying food at college or a supermarket - or takeaway, sigh, Council Tax - money set aside on payday, then paid on 1st of following month - that was partly because I thought I would have to put £500 through the account as per 2023, then it got easier. 3 transactions a week does it easily.
