Interested to know what you would do if you unexpectedly received 30k?

Nosejobnelly · 03/04/2026 18:10

DarmokAndJaladAtTenagra · 03/04/2026 18:10

Put whatever I could my s+S ISA for this year.
Put 20k in after 5th April.

Ovaryinatwist · 03/04/2026 18:11

Garden, ISA, fix my roof

shellyleppard · 03/04/2026 18:12

Split it 3 ways to give my sons some money towards s house deposit. My share.....no idea 🤣

dizzydizzydizzy · 03/04/2026 18:13
  1. Book a holiday
  2. put the rest away for a rainy day
Overthebow · 03/04/2026 18:13

I’d put a chunk in to the mortgage, some for a holiday and the rest into savings.

mushmallow · 03/04/2026 18:13

two years of school fees pretty much covered.

Statsquestion1 · 03/04/2026 18:14

Probably spend some on this years holiday and save the rest.

Fraughtmum · 03/04/2026 18:14

Spend every penny on holidays

Overtheatlantic · 03/04/2026 18:17

£2k to charity, £2k to a family member, rainy day savings.

PermanentTemporary · 03/04/2026 18:17
  1. immediate bills protective slush fund of about £5k
  2. £20k in stocks and shares ISA, or a LISA depending on life circumstances
  3. £5k in fixed term savings bond at 4% - move it to the ISA when it matures next year
sanityisamyth · 03/04/2026 18:20

Premium bonds

YouBelongWithMe · 03/04/2026 18:22

£10-12k on a new kitchen
£10k on a fantastic holiday with our teens
£8-10k as an overpayment on the mortgage

TheCurious0range · 03/04/2026 18:22

We've been toying with getting a second car again, a small electric one so would probably do that. We're also planning to repaint the hallway in the summer (it's a pain because we have 10ft ceilings) so would pay someone to do that! Rest in savings, we already budget for holidays

WelshCakeLover · 03/04/2026 18:25

put it towards IVF in a heartbeat 😊

Tel12 · 03/04/2026 18:26

Well it would depend if I had any debt. Pay that off first. Think about what might need replacing it the near future. Give some to children etc. 20k to ISA. Then wonder where it all went

skippy67 · 03/04/2026 18:27

Fraughtmum · 03/04/2026 18:14

Spend every penny on holidays

Same.

dontletmedownbruce · 03/04/2026 18:29

£2k holiday
£1.5k new carpets upstairs
£6.5k mortgage
£20k ISA

God, that would be great. I wish I hadn’t thought about it now.

TheSmallAssassin · 03/04/2026 18:32

Have a family holiday, up my AVC to the maximum to get the tax gain, put the rest in an accessible ISA and then live off it until it was gone. My focus is on retiring earlier - we don't have any debt and have seen the kids through uni.

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 03/04/2026 18:34

In Scotland so no uni fees should with careful management and DD working part time be enough to leave uni without debt or a loan

confusedlots · 03/04/2026 18:35

Currently thinking to put 10k towards the house, we have a couple of biggish jobs in the pipeline and this will mean we can do them quicker which will make a big difference to the house.

15k invested in S&S ISA for the longer term

And 5k in a high interest account for now until I decide what to do with it, sensible thing would be to put this in the S&S ISA too but I’m conscious we might need more than 10k for the house

Garden
Holiday
ISA

HollyhockDays · 03/04/2026 18:40

New curtains for sitting room
Roof repair
Repaint our bedroom
New handbag
Short breaks with the rest
Possibly get the back garden reseeded

Dodonutty · 03/04/2026 18:42

In a similar situation with an unexpected windfall I put £20k in an ISA, £20k in premium bonds waiting until it could go into an ISA, donated some, bought some special gifts for my family, theatre tickets, 2 new bags, a couple of short breaks & paid for my DC to have the trip of a lifetime etc
