Interested to know what you would do if you unexpectedly received 30k?

Holiday for 10 days somewhere warm and beautiful.
New sofas.
New bed for daughter.
The rest in savings to benefit the kids in the future, and give us some security.

Fontet · 03/04/2026 18:44

Buy a van and travel

Starseeking · 03/04/2026 18:47

Pay off debt, including mortgage. I hate having to make monthly payments towards anything.

Zanatdy · 03/04/2026 18:50

Well i’m buying a house and depleting a lot of my savings so i’d stick it in my savings account and do nothing for a while.

patooties · 03/04/2026 18:51

Holiday. A proper one.

Flomingho · 03/04/2026 18:54

Would either pay off my mortgage or put in a new bathroom and kitchen.

SuzyFandango · 03/04/2026 18:56

Pay it off the mortgage

Helga55 · 03/04/2026 19:01

Pay my car loan off, my extension loan off and put whatever’s left towards a holiday. It means I’m £700 a month better off straight away and have something to look forward to

FuglyBitch · 03/04/2026 19:02

A new roof

travelallthetime · 03/04/2026 19:05

£7k on debt
£8k new bathroom
£10k holiday
£5k isa

WhereYouLeftIt · 03/04/2026 19:11

Put a £30k dent in DS's student debt.

SeriaMau · 03/04/2026 19:16

Lego. Lots.

Retrogamer · 03/04/2026 19:19

We don't have a proper kitchen, it's like a utility room with broken cupboards and chipped tiles. Id love to get it extended and rebuilt.
Then some added to a savings account for our kids

Shufflebumnessie · 03/04/2026 19:23

Extremely sensible - use it to pay off a chunk of the mortgage.

Mostly sensible - rip out & replace the downstairs bathroom, staircase renovation (replace spindles with glass & oak, & stop the stairs creaking plus new carpet), and remainder into the mortgage.

Least sensible - a lovely family holiday & the rest into savings for future holidays.

Oh I’ve been playing this game all day, after winning £50 on premium bonds yesterday but wishing it was £50k.

With 30k: new bathroom/slight reconfigure of upstairs rooms.
we need to replace our back doors
have a holiday where I don’t have to plan food every day. I’ve not had a holiday like that since I had kids.

stapletonsguitar · 03/04/2026 19:24

Get a new kitchen.

museumum · 03/04/2026 19:26

New kitchen. If we did it properly (rather than on the cheep) it would probably outlast us.

SheWillBeTheDeathOfMe · 03/04/2026 19:27

Either put it towards moving house or a new kitchen and windows for this house. Maybe sneak out £5k for a much needed holiday.

shuddacuddadidnt · 03/04/2026 19:29

£20k on solar panels, battery and heat pump. Remaining £10k on knee surgery with rest (if any) gifted to dc.

saycheeese · 03/04/2026 20:48

I'd use it for a deposit on a house, currently stuck in the private rent cycle desperately saving to escape it. 30k would be a massive help.

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 03/04/2026 20:56

A holiday, probably about £5k worth.

Then either put it into savings or see if I could get on the housing ladder if I add it to what I already have.

I need a new car too, but I think a house would be the priority.

JonathanGirl · 03/04/2026 20:58

5k on a lovely holiday
15k on a new kitchen
5k each into savings for the dc

caringcarer · 03/04/2026 21:06

Buy new carpets up stairs then split remainder between 3 DC to pay off their mortgages and eldest foster son a share who is at uni.

JBJ · 03/04/2026 21:06

Pay off the loan I had to take out to pay for roof repairs and a new boiler. Fix my leaking bathroom. Replace my leaking roof window. Replace my cracked hob and on-it’s-last-legs washing machine. Hopefully a bit left to sort the garden. Pray nothing else breaks!!
