Hi there

if my husband and I are separating, I have a son, in HA housing.
joint tenancy but he is going to stay with his mum.
if I claim UC as a single parent, do I have to prove he’s gone/going?
ongoing discussion but likely to go this way.

They shouldn’t ask for proof. You just need to do a change of circumstance no longer living with a partner when he leaves. You’ll be paid 50% of the rent but if your husband leaves and is no longer contributing to rent then you need to tell UC you have untidy tenancy. Which is when the joint tenancy holder is no longer resident and is not contributing to rent.

You can claim while living under the same roof but you'll need to show you live separate lives - own finances and food etc.
