My only DD has just turned 16.

I have been a single mum for most of her life. But means I have been late to the party financially to be able to save for such things.

How much do I need to save for driving lessons, car, insurance etc?

And how much for university, a helpful monthly payment, how much are people giving their uni children a month etc?

I am now in a financial position to be able to save a reasonable amount towards these things but want first had advice about it how much this all costs etc

Thank you!

Ps they don’t spend a fortune on cocaine. Unless they gave stupid amounts of money. They find the nearest ‘spoons and head there! Or they do pres and then head out. My DS now appreciates a Lidl over Sainsbury’s.

If you are keen to get her driving due to reality it might be worth looking at some of the off-road courses for under 17s. It was my go-to present for my nieces and nephews before they were old enough to learn on the road.

I think though with driving it’s quite variable. Despite weekly lessons I didn’t pass before I’d left for university. My parents also wouldn’t let me practise in their car so it cost them much more. i did much better with a different instructor when I returned for the summer and tried intensive blocks rather than weekly.
