Monzo as main bank?

Hi does anyone use Monzo as their main bank account? I currently use it for savings pots & general spending but thinking of switching. Would like some reviews if possible please?

It’s a bank. It just does what I need my bank to do without fuss. It has an option to catergorise spending to help with budgeting. Children aged 6 plus can get their own card to their account which is technically one of your pots.

It's been my main bank for 6 years. It's good, straight forward, clear, easy to use. The one time I needed customer support they were responsive.

Catcuddles2 · 16/01/2026 15:27

It’s been my main, but always have a back up. Monzo have been known to shut accounts and not explain why.

They also won't reopen an account for you if you decide to switch to another bank and then want to come back.

Not used as a main account. My deceased husband used it as bank account for the savings pots and as a place to put his monthly ‘fun’ money allowance - mainly cinema/coffes etc. They were a nightmare to deal with and in closing the account (£4 grand worth). It’s taken a year after probate was granted and using solicitors and a financial advisor, to resolve. Other banks and organisations were much easier to deal with.

Thank you all so much for replying, I think I’ll keep them as a side bank it sounds like if you have a bad experience they are terrible!

@Alphabet1spaghetti2 I’m so sorry for your loss, thank you for sharing your experience with me x

They are my main bank and I've never had any problems.

I've recently wound up my late mums estate and nearly every bank account/investment of hers was hassle to deal with. I ended up in tears in a branch of Halifax, got £200 compensation from Aviva for their repeated cock ups and closed my account of 45 years with Barclays because they were completely incompetent. Nationwide were good.

I’m sorry this was your experience. I’ve the same many times.

death admin must be a many times a day thing -no idea how it’s always handled so badly. It’s hardly unusual.

sorry to hijack op

Good question.

I was thinking of moving my main account to Monzo. OH and I use it for joint affairs, but we both have high street accounts which is where our salaries are paid into.

I like all the little pots and gimmicky savings goals Monzo has, but I feel somewhere in the back of my mind I've heard stories of people having issues with them...

Buscake · 24/01/2026 19:56

I use it for my main account, my business account and my 3 kids have their accounts with them too. They’re great!
