Im due in june however im a contractor so in theory ill be out of work for my maternity leave for 18months. If im lucky i might get 6 weeks statuary maternity pay. How will this affect my NI as ive always worked apart for 1 week between starting a new job whether is part time at uni or full time? My husband works full time and earns under 70k so i dont Know if i can apply for anything and if so what the consequences or im better off trying to find a small easy job if thats better? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Claiming child benefit maintains your NI contributions. However given your household income this will be taxed
