Uc review - over 6,000

I have my telephone appointment after sending in bank statements.

Over my 3 bank accounts I have a total of £6,430. I haven’t declared I am over £6,000.
I knew I was over but just forgot to declare. ( No excuse but I’ve just moved house and Christmas ect)

i believe I should of have £4.35 deducted for every £250 over £6,000..So my UC should have been deducted £8.70 each month.

What will UC do?

Presumably say you owe them money and deduct it from you

Double check the amount you have. You need to deducted any income received in the current assessment period. Income doesn’t count as savings until the next ap if it remains unspent.

if you have calculated properly and are over 6k you’ll have an overpayment

I think they'll just take a proportion out of the debt each month till it's clear. So you'll get less UC for a few months.

I don't think they'll try and discipline you or cut you off or accuse you of being dishonest. It's only a very small amount over the limit and could easily have gone unnoticed.

@Burningbud1981

i am slightly confused, are you able to advise me please.

my assessment period is 8th - 9th

on the 8th of august my accounts are

  1. £989.59
  2. £3,300
  3. 3,130
= £7,419.59

in this assessment period I get £2,333.19 ( a mix of wages, UC, child benefit and child maintenance)

What would my capital be for this period?
do I take the £2,333.19 away from the £7,419.59?

August? How long has your account been over 6k?

Since July But if you can take away income, uc, child maintenance/benefits it hasn’t been over at all.

I just don’t understand how you work out capital.

In simple terms cash savings are capital.

However earnings do not capitalise until the end of the AP after they were paid.

UC seem to have got more focus on current account balances over the last year or so and there's an impression that either staff or systems don't 'get' the disregard for earnings explained above.

Yes subtract the 2333.19 away if the income was received in that assessment period.
