Hi,
I hold power of attorney for my mum. She’s not able to make decisions regarding finances now. She’s very comfortable financially.
I urgently need £1000 to fix my roof. Would it be awful if I borrowed it from mum, and then paid it back over 4 months. Mum would 100% have said yes if she was able to.

This is not within the terms of PoA and is wrong. You know this. That is why you have asked. I suggest using a credit card or asking your bank for a loan.

I think you got your replies on the other thread but no, this is an abuse of the POA. The trouble is, if you do it once, you can do it again. It must be hard needing the money and knowing your mum would probably have loaned you it but morally and legally you can't.

Go through standard credit application.

If you can pay it off in 4 months then you can limit the impact of interest. 0% credit cards are your friend here.

It is a shame your mum would have helped, but she does not have the capacity to do so now. It doesn't mean you can help yourself tp her money now, even with plans to pay it back. It wouldn't be appropriate, so give yourself a wobble and push the idea out of your head.

No. Don't do this. You can't borrow from your Mum because she does not have capacity to agree. It does not matter how comfortable she is financially. Your role as a PoA is to ensure her finances are run for her own wellbeing and security. £1000 should be obtainable by other proper channels.
