Car Insurance Learner Drivers

I’m trying to sort car insurance to add my son to my insurance when he turns 17 later this month. I want to do it as a new quote, as my insurance is up for renewal on ten days after his birthday anyway.

RAC says they cannot quote until his actual birthday - as until then his dob makes him ineligible on their system.

seems a pretty obvious tech fix would be to link the policy start date to the dob check.

has anyone else encountered this issue, or is literally the first thing I have to do on his birthday is phone around insurers ?!

Don't add him to your insurance, get learners insurance on top. Loads of places do it - Marmalade, Veygo etc. it means if he has an accident it's not a claim on your insurance. You can also pause it when he's not going to be driving eg holidays, exams etc. you don't need to start it until he's ready to practice in your car.
