Balance transfer greater than amount owed on the credit card

I’ve just opened a new card to balance transfer existing debt of £1000.

Since applying, I’ve had a refund from a retailer and the balance is just less than £500 now.

What happens in this instance? Does the card go into credit?

Yes it will go into credit and if you close the account you will get the credit back

You can just ask for the credit back, too, if you’re not closing the account.

You can ask for the credit back. I once got £6500 back as I had a holiday cancelled due to COVID lockdown. Phoned up Amex and they put it in my bank account within a few days.

Excellent, thanks all.
