Putting shares in a stocks and shares ISA?

I have a few shares worth a small amount of money (less than £2k), and I am thinking of opening a stocks and shares ISA. Would it be possible to move the shares into the stocks and shares ISA, or would I have to sell the shares and transfer the money into the ISA?

You can’t do it directly no. You’d have to sell the shares and invest in a S&S isa. You could then use the money “buy back” those same shares if you wanted ti continue that
particular investment. You’d need to speak to an advisor at the isa company.

Yes you can do a Bed & ISA where you sell your non-ISA shares and use the cash to buy them back within your new Stocks and Shares ISA.

Thank you both for this - very helpful to know!
