Single person, no dependents.
What would net salary be - without pension deductions?

I’ve posted in money matters with a specific query and thank you to the posters who gave answers and supplied links
I am not a sock puppet or a troll and I have reported the posters who are accusing me of being one.

I think people are just wondering why you haven’t googled it yourself for the answer. It’s a fact easy to find, not someone’s opinion.

Jamesblonde2 · 19/09/2025 18:36

Well you’d pay over £90k in tax……£90k

HangingOver · 19/09/2025 18:32

Oh I'd love to make this much money. I'm green with envy (from my sofa lol) 😁

I didn’t get the impression OP earned that much either! Or she would know…

Sounds like maybe her ExH earns it, and she is working out how much money he has spare.

sminted · 19/09/2025 18:51

Less than you think dir to tax!

padronpepper · 19/09/2025 19:02

@londongirl12
Is there a rule that a person has to google something rather than ask on MN?

@LemondrizzleShark
My husband is not an ex husband.

No. Most people would though since they would get the information immediately instead of waiting for posters to respond. Also, but this might just be me, I feel bad taking up other people's time if it's something I can just google myself.🤷‍♀️

sminted · 19/09/2025 19:27

Mns wouldn't exist really with that attitude. After all, we are all adults & it's not compulsory to reply to a thread.

Titasaducksarse · 19/09/2025 19:29

Cripes...if you're clever enough to command that salary you should be able to find a salary calculator online!

padronpepper · 19/09/2025 19:59

@Titasaducksarse
If you were clever enough to read my posts properly you will see that I make no mention of it being my salary.

Indeed. Capable of earning nearly a quarter of a mil, but not mastered Google.

In which case you haven’t given nearly enough info to advise.

Actually, you did say salary. In your title and in the OP.

You’re wondering what someone else earns, aren’t you?

padronpepper · 19/09/2025 20:10

@AmIHumanOrAmIAYeti
I said ‘salary’, I didn’t say ‘my salary’.
Are you capable of understanding the difference?

Okay, it’s nuanced.

but there are lots of factors you haven’t shared, and the fact remains that in the time you took to write and post your OP could have got an answer yourself.

padronpepper · 19/09/2025 20:14

I had a couple of answers from posters within 3 minutes of asking the question last night and I thanked them.
Are we only allowed to ask questions when the answers can’t be found by googling?

I make approx 220k and there are weird responses on this thread...

Also braced to be given a load of shit for this but here we go...

I have no student loans now
I will clear approx £6k per month this year

80k will go into pension (i have unused allowance from a mat leave - generally its 60k that goes in)
Of that take home of 6k we need 4k to keep the lights on (as our monthly Basics are 8k, of which childcare is 4.5k pm?!?)
about 1.7k ish pm (aiming for 20k per year) goes into savings
Leaving £300 pm for my "everything else" fun money

Total tax is about 63k

Tldr: I make 220k and have 300pm fun money..Fucking depressing stuff....

BilbaoBaggage · 19/09/2025 20:20

I am going to read between the lines here. I suspect that the person (husband) who is earning this salary is perhaps being less than honest about how much money they bring home each month and/or how much is going into their pension.

KnittingOnEmpty · 19/09/2025 20:22

So now you have a rough idea. I'm curious to know what job role commands that salary as I'm up for retraining.

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 19/09/2025 20:26

£8k per year less if the salary earner is in Scotland than England.

so incase they are north of the border it’s c£120k or £10k pm

You’ll be rolling in it in retirement though.

padronpepper · 19/09/2025 20:30

@BilbaoBaggage
Sorry to disappoint you but I am not referring to my husband. If you had also read my op properly you will see I asked about a single person with no dependents.

No one’s forcing you to put so much in your pension though! Bit weird to complain when you’re choosing to limit your disposable income

Ideally, yes. It’s not as though you have to trudge miles to a library and read tax legislation with a pad and pencil to do long division in 2025, is it? Why clutter up servers with questions it takes seconds to answer yourself?

in the UK marital status and number of children doesn’t affect taxation.
