Debt relief order & council tax debt

Hello,

Does anyone know how it works with council tax debt? If there’s two names on there and one of you does a debt relief order can the whole amount be put on there? In my case it was, but now the other person who was on the bill at the time is being chased for the debt. I’m just not sure on how this works before I go back to them.

This is an old debt from many years ago now.

The other person is still fully responsible. The DRO only clears your responsibility towards the debt, it doesn't actually cancel the debt as such.

Council tax has “joint and several liability” which means you are both responsible for 100% of the debt. Your DRO removes your liability for the debt but not the other person’s, it doesn’t cancel the debt.
