I've got this happening too.

Earthbound4 · 23/08/2025 15:33

Just logged in no problem.

Darragon · 23/08/2025 15:48

How do you know their password system has been "compromised and leaked" if there's no notifications anywhere?

twiddlingthumbs69 · 23/08/2025 15:50

@Earthbound4the press. PayPal haven’t issued any statements regarding this

The only fraud I have ever been a victim of was through PayPal. Deleted my account.

Did you read the article you linked to ? Because it actually says that if any data has been stolen (and there is no evidence it has yet) "well-known security expert Troy Hunt suspects that the hacker didn’t steal the data directly from PayPal’s servers since PayPal doesn’t store passwords in plaintext. Most likely they were taken from users, perhaps via infostealer malware". In other words, it would be you they hacked, not Paypal.

It's been working fine for me today.

@PhilippaGeorgiouim very pleased it’s working for you however, for millions of others it hasn’t been for 24hrs. I was just putting the info out there to help others if they were having a problem and pointing out it’s not a user error but an error site side

TheFormidableMrsC · 23/08/2025 16:12

That's fine - but I was pointing out that the actual article suggests the alleged "hack" is on the user side via malware, rather than the Paypal server side. I have no idea why it isn't working for some people, but I was also trying to be helpful and pointing out that the article suggests the data came from malware on the user side. Which would also be useful to people if there is malware on their computers. You posted the link, not me.

According to the information on their Customer services page there is an issue with an update for money transfers which they are working to resolve. This corresponds to the reports on Downdetector which suggests that the major problems are around transfers. So ostensibly nothing to do with a hack.
