Child benefit - last payment?

Hi all
Sorry, I can't find an answer to this after googling.
My YP is starting Uni next month. Child benefit will stop at the end of August. I have just received payment this last week for the normal amount. I'm just budgeting for next month and trying to work out if there will be a pro rata amount paid for the last 2 weeks of August, or is that it? Was that the last payment and there'll be no more?
Thank you to anyone who can answer this. Google is not very helpful.

August the 31st, so you have one more payment.

Actually, scrap that, for some reason, unbeknown to me, I have always had mine weekly not monthly. So yours may be different

It’s paid in arrears, my next one is due next week, full amount. I think next month I’ll either get nothing or 5 days worth? I am planning for nothing.

Thanks everyone. We may get a couple of weeks worth next month then.

What do people mean by pro rota? You receive CHB in arrears and the rate is a weekly rate. It’s paid 4 weekly in arrears.
When I received my last payment, I was paid on my normal payment day, but I was only paid 2 weeks, because that was all I was due!

I've looked it up and it says if YP is in "approved education" then CB continues until the age of 20. But bizarrely uni isn't classed as "approved education"! So no idea what is?!!

Edited

Sadly it does not apply to Uni. It does apply to college courses up until the age of 20.

@Chickenhorse Ah thanks, now I understand. Seems strange though?

I'd guess it's because they can apply for a student loan for higher education in contrast to being supported at home for a FE college course.

Im so glad ive come across this thread. My 18 year old has left education so child benefit ended on 31/08 I was due my monthly payment today but assumed i wouldn't recieve anything but they have paid me 3 weeks child benefit, do you think this is because its paid in arrears? I've checked my online account and it states that im no longer entitled to CB so i know its updated. I've tried calling but obviously the lines are so busy that I just keep getting cut off I just dont want an overpayment

IHaveRunOutOfIdeas · 02/09/2025 22:05

Yes, they will have calculated what was left and paid it when they closed the claim. I had mine last week.
