Best way to transfer money from a US bank account to a UK account

What is the most efficient way for someone in the US to make a regular monthly payment to someone in the UK? The person currently uses PayPal but some months a significant amount is lost through poor exchange rate and charges.

Is there a better way to maximise exchange rate/minimise charges?

Set up a Wise account - the fx rates on transfers tend to be good and it’s quick

The dollar is weak against the pound so money is usually going to be lost, no matter the exchange rate. I send money weekly in the opposite direction.

I have a family member who moved to the US twenty years ago and we send a lot of money back and forth- always use Wise. It's a lot cheaper than bank transfers.

I was a bit skeptical at first but its proved to be reliable and safe.
