It’s a parking ticket one!

Hi folks, yesterday I paid for an hour of parking and gave the ticket to DH to display while I faffed in the boot. He absentmindedly put the ticket in his pocket rather than displaying it. 😬
We now have a fine to pay, of course. He says we’ll be able to get off the fine because we bought a ticket and just have to appeal it. The fine says ‘failure to clearly display a pay and display ticket’, so they won’t care that we bought a ticket - we still owe the fine for not displaying it clearly.
Has anyone been let off a fine in these circumstances?!
It’s Worthing Borough Council btw.

Umm. No. Sorry but you're right - having a ticket but not displaying it is basically the same as not buying a ticket.

You miiiiiggghht strike lucky with a 'first offence' - maybe...

I’ve been let off before when my ticket blew off the dashboard when I was closing the door. Although they were clear that it was because it was the first time I’d be fined.

i wouldn’t say where the ticket was, just that you’d bought one and send a photo in.

And get DH to sort the appeal and pay the fine if not successful!

I was once let off when I stuck mine on a window and it clearly came unstuck in the heat and fell down the side of my seat. I could provide a copy of the ticket which obviously made a big difference. If you’ve got your ticket, I’d definitely try to appeal.

We got one reduced from £60 to a £20 admin fee when we entered the car reg incorrectly. The keypad on the machine wasn't registering what we were entering so it wasn't fair really but I settled for the £20 as it wasn't worth spending any more time appealing it.

can’t hurt to try. I once displayed the ticket but as I shut the door it turned around. I ran over to the warden and said there’s a ticket. She showed me her pictures and said some people put them the wrong way hoping for the benefit of the doubt. It was in the days you could drive to a council building and I appealed. They usually say they will as a one off but don’t do it again.

this sounds like a him problem - get him to appeal and pay.

Always appeal as you never know, especially as you did pay. I’ve got off two tickets before as I appealed.

Thanks so much everyone! You were all a tiny bit encouraging, so DH appealed last night with a pic of our purchased ticket and a plea for first offence. Let's see! 😀

I had a similar thing happen - I appealed and they said the fine was correct but they would waive it.

I am so paranoid about this after some bad experiences that I now always place the ticket on the dashboard, close the door and take a picture of the ticket in situ. It is ridiculous, but, IMO, necessary.

Just appeal with a copy of ticket and say it had fallen
