I applied for both of my kids 10th March scan date and got one awarded 2 weeks ago. The assessor called me cos I forgot to put bank account details but he told me over the phone what he was awarding. He said the back pay would be in our account 3 working days later which it was. Still haven’t heard for my other kid and UC haven’t verified their side of things yet, don’t know when her payment date is just know it’s Tuesdays. The back payment is the only thing we’ve had so far and it’s been 2 weeks since it was awarded. Letter came a week later.

My text also said “We've decided your child qualifies for Disability Living Allowance. You don't need to contact us about this. We'll send you a letter with all you need to know. If you don't get this within 2 weeks please contact us.” Have you had this text? Perhaps they haven’t awarded it. 😳

Once you get the letter if you’ve been declined or disagree with the decision you can phone and get the statement of reasons, this will say why you’ve been declined, and then do a mandatory reconsideration (MR). This is where another decision maker reviews the form and any additional evidence you can send them. You should go through the statement of reasons and address any of their decisions that you disagree with and reference your evidence. The MR can take 20+ weeks. If you are refused again then next step after that is tribunal.

I didn’t get a text ever just so worried I didn’t put enough on the form even though the school wrote 4 pages

That’s a bit rude! I have two disabled children ones legs don’t work after an accident and the other has cerebral palsy due to birth trauma neither of which are hereditary! Bloody idiot

What a strange comment. Are you mentally unhinged? Is it a genetic condition passed on by your parents?

justkeepswimingswiming · 30/06/2025 16:26

If you dont have a payment by tomorrow, its likely not to be awarded. Usually its only 3 working days unless you forgot to put bank details on.

I have two kids who get DLA. Nothing unfortunate about me or them thanks

What a ridiculous thing to say. I have 3 children who qualified for DLA (now PIP). It's just the way life goes sometimes.

Not the thread for you, how rude. Nothing unfortunate about my children. They don’t have a genetic condition, if you must know.

If no award, you have to wait for the letter & then do a mandatory reconsideration.

If you aren't awarded, you will get a letter which states the reasons for which you've been refused. You will need to go through them and decide if you agree with them, or if you disagree. If you disagree, you'll write a letter requesting a Mandatory Reconsideration - it has to be within 1 month.

With DD2, many years ago, I addressed each statement in turn. "You say that DD2 is like typical children because....I stated in question 13 of my claim form that DD2 in fact needs x, y, z support. This support is far in excess of the support needed by a typical child." DD2 was upgraded from outright refusal to award, to middle rate care and low rate mobility.

That’s great news OP. Odd that they couldn’t tell you over the phone nor did you get a text though!

if you claim UC, you can get the disabled child and carers element backdated too, and if you have another child then also the housing element for an extra bedroom.

unhappy50 · 01/07/2025 09:18

I work full time as a single mum but will look at my options .. thank you
