Money sent to wrong Paypal address!

DH is an idiot and gave the wrong email address to receive a paypal payment (we‘re in a country where this is a common means of sending money). Think jsmithAThotmail.com instead of jsmithATgmail.com.

The sender sent the money by friends and family, and isn’t able to cancel the transaction. They have messaged the receiver but got no response. DH called paypal but they were useless. He has just sent a request for the money to the other email address.

Is there anything else we can do? It was €150 so we don’t want to let it go too easily.

I don't think so. If he can't cancel the payment I think that means the other email address exists. Otherwise he could cancel it. It wasn't a goods and services payment so you can't claim not received to get your money back. He just voluntarily gave money to a stranger. If they don't want to give it back I'm not sure there's anything you can do. You don't even know if they use PayPal or email regularly. They might not even know that you've sent them this money until one day they have cause to log in and see it.

Thanks, that’s what I thought. DH said he always gets a notification when he receives money so the person would be aware, and we need to rely on their honesty. But I rarely use my own Paypal account and I don’t think I would know if a random person sent me money.
