another vote for insureandgo
Went with them last year and again this year.

AitchTwoCiao · 21/05/2008 22:51

will check them out, ta. moneysupermarket is bringing up pretty good prices but of course i've never heard of the main ones. amazing the difference in coverage, though.

A few people told me that insureandgo were good, I checked their prices and they seemed reasonable. Just to be on the safe side, I take their middle insurance, think its silver.

tbh, I don't think any insurance pay out willingly but its something you have to have.
My FIL had to claim on his ThomasCook insurance. It took months to claim the money back and he ended up out of pocket too because of the exchange rate

Tortington · 21/05/2008 23:06

your own bank might do it cheaply

i am with the co-op and we are automatically covered becuase of the account i have - worth checking.

also post office?

There was something on the ,money saving expert' website about this today.

AitchTwoCiao · 21/05/2008 23:10

ah, i am a well-known meanie and refuse any accounts with fripperies such as travel insurance (because i haven't had a flipping hol in 5 years). it's something i'm beginning to regret now that i find none of the aforementioned companies will quote me because of my poxy high bp.

We have insurance with these My mum recomended them as they were the only place she could get insurance having had a heart attack only months beforehand, and they are pretty affordable.

AitchTwoCiao · 22/05/2008 09:24

have just looked, it says cover for pre-existing med conditions not available. i wonder if the credit crunch has made them more wary?

Travel Insurance Web are often the cheapest for an annual family policy, but if you want to include ski insurance, insure and go are better.

BigGitDad · 22/05/2008 09:35

Bear in mind yuo pay for what you get, I cannot emphasise this enough with insurance. Get a cheap policy the cover will be poor. Shop around and make comparisons. Usually it is best to use an insurance broker since they will use a competitive insurer and will know what is good value.

mumoftwo37 · 22/05/2008 09:41

Tesco are good - they cover me and DS2 and we both have existing medical conditions. It was reasonably priced too.
Oh and a few years back we had to claim as DS1 was ill and we couldn't go and they paid out really quickly.

AitchTwoCiao · 22/05/2008 14:51

right, i became increasingly depressed looking online as i Don't Do Numbers but with custy and biggitdad's advice ringing in my ears i called my bank and upgraded my current account to some fancy schmanzy thing where i pay £12 a month and get all sorts of fripperies, including family travel cover. (apparently i can cancel the account thing if i decide i don't want it, which i may do in a couple of months after all our holidaying is done for the next five years. thanks everyone.

and bloody hell, who knew that the e1-11 form was no longer? i just shocked the people at the post office by asking for it. [old school]
