Tax code changes - no notifications

I have only just received a final payslip for a job that I finished on the 10th April and notice that my tax code has been changed to 848L for April. Looking back at previous payslips, it changed in February 2025 from 1255L to 112L M1.

My tax code has obviously changed as I started a new job, but I can’t see any notifications or messages on my gov.uk personal tax account about previous changes, nor have I had any emails from HMRC.

Can anyone shed any light on all of this, or should I phone HMRC and see if they can help?

Many thanks

Call HMRC - they are best placed to explain what’s happened and why.

M1 is an emergency tax code.

Thanks. I'll give HMRC a ring.

DH seems to have stopped getting letters from HMRC about tax code changes - he did check his online account and the explanation was on there somewhere (£x added to personal allowance for something or other £x taken off for something else) - I can’t remember exactly where as it was fairly convoluted to find.

There were no notifications or messages about it though.

@abnerbrownsdressinggown Maybe there is some glitch in the system that is preventing emails or notifications being sent? I will ask when I phone up.
