Premium bonds for niece?

Hey,

I don't get on with my sister but try to look after my niece because she was the result of a teen pregnancy, my sister's a bit feckless and my daughter is spoilt as i've done pretty well in life so i try to spread the love. I just feel like if you growup in poverty (like i did) its a help to have a benefactor, someone in your corner.

So far i've just given cash but that's easily frittered. My daughter saves her money up in premium bonds; can i set something up for 18yo niece like this so it will build for her and become meaningful? Whats the rules? Is there a better idea? 🤔

Thanks all!

As far as I'm aware only a parent can set up a child's premium bonds, and only up until the age of 16, when they gain control of it.
Do you want to have savings for her or for her to be able to access the money?

Thanks, thats a pain! Savings for her really, I want it to grow and not just go on games and clothes etc, but i wouldnt want to lock it up for too long as she might buy a house in say 5yrs?

Can you put it into a savings bond then gift it to her when it matures in 2/5 years?
