Hello
Can some please advice ..My father has deferred state pension for 20 years he has decided to start to claim the Lump sum about 4 weeks ago..he sent off the application form and he is waiting for the reply. However he has taken very ill and is now bedbound and may die ..
If he died before his pension was claimed would his son be able to claim lump sum?

Sorry to hear about this. No I don't think so. It's also not clear if a child can inherit the lump sum even if it has been paid. I think this is one for Citizens Advice.

A partner can inherit a pension.

In any case I think it's a good idea to chase up with whoever the application was sent to.
