Help with energy providers please

I'm shopping around for energy providers to see if I can save money.

I have no idea how to choose one. For example my current gas supplier EDF has told me my annual consumption and unit charge. However I pay a fixed amount per month via DD.

How do I find a cheaper tariff? I don't know what to choose variable, fixed...how long to lock in the contract?

I've heard that energy charges will drop in June should I wait till then?

I am sure there is a comparison site, compare the market, or go compare or similar.
I always compare what my current provider offers as there is always a better deal than the standard offer. But I can’t be bothered to change energy supplier as last time I did it it was a muddle for weeks.

The 'fixed amount per month via DD' is only fixed if the cost of the energy you actually use is the same as whatever was estimated when working out your DD. Otherwise what you actually pay could be more or less than this amount.

So you need to do a comparison. There are many online that can help you work this out. Eg Moneysaving Expert, Uswitch. If it works out that an eon tariff is cheapest for you (I'm currently on a fix from last September, but obviously things have changed since then) then if you sign up via my referral link we both get £50 account credit:

Thanks I'm slowly sorting it out and it's a bit of a mess.

I've found out annual energy consumption, standing charges and price per unit for electricity and gas.

I've looked into various deals and I think given the state of energy companies, fixed rate is the way to go.

I've missed pre April's opportunity but read that changes will come in in June. If so, I'll nail down a fixed rate while they're low then.

I've organised for a refund of credit and asked my supplier to look into 2024 because I wasn't at home.

Dual fuel doesn't look good so I think separate suppliers will be the way to go.
