Old employer was 16%. Current is 10%. Both private sector DC pensions.

Cheersmedears123 · 24/04/2025 19:47

Only 2% of my actual salary. It’s really low. I’m a bit concerned reading this thread!

What companies are paying over 20% in addition to employee contributions??!!

Local government, teachers, civil service, police is 35% I think.

Local Authority public sector. 6% so not as high as people seem to believe!

Danikm151 · 24/04/2025 19:48

5%
last year it was only 3% so it’s a little boost

scrivette · 24/04/2025 19:50

18.5% - but I don’t see a direct benefit (public sector) as it’s used to ensure there is enough money in the Pension Scheme to ensure everyone’s pensions can be paid.

Onetwothreefourfivealive · 24/04/2025 19:51

I pay 13.5% and my employer pays 35%

SarahAndQuack · 24/04/2025 19:54

Mine is the legal minimum, but we do get a bonus at Christmas that can go into pension tax free; it's 15% of my yearly pay so it's not awful.

Ponderingwindow · 24/04/2025 19:57

3%. It’s a non-profit so hardly surprising.

Now that I’m getting older, I pay in the maximum out of my salary.

Historyofwolves · 24/04/2025 20:01

10.5%. I have to put in way more than that for tax reasons.

Min employer contributions is 3% of qualifying earnings. Are you on a low wage?

Cheersmedears123 · 24/04/2025 20:09

@DefyingGravidy I’m over £50k so I believe my employer (and myself) only pay the min % on anything below that.

HelloNorthernStar · 24/04/2025 20:22

9%, I put in 16%. We have pension salary sacrifice which is beneficial as it keeps the tax and NI payments lower.

DefyingGravidy · 24/04/2025 20:23

Ive never heard of anyone not paying above the upper limit! (Mind you I didn’t realise there were so many getting above 10% so what do I know).

Yours wins the meanest employer award I think.

DogsAndBirds · 24/04/2025 20:29

Teacher here 👋 So 28.68% apparently but as it’s DB it’s not clear cut like a private pension. I put in 9.9%.

Cheersmedears123 · 24/04/2025 21:25

@DefyingGravidy they're a fantastic employer in so many ways but yeah, I’ve realised they really let themselves down on pensions!

Kuretake · 24/04/2025 21:34

It's the opposite - high wage means 3% of qualifying wage is a lower percentage of actual wage. At one point my employer was paying less than 1% of mine.

You may well already know this, but you can pay any money you have (up to 60k) into a pension tax free. If your work scheme won’t let you, you can open a SIPP.

IsItSummerSoon · 24/04/2025 21:39

10% which is the maximum they contribute. Below that they match your contribution.

Hedjwitch · 24/04/2025 21:41

They do 13%, I do 5%

GOODCAT · 24/04/2025 21:48

They put in 8% and I now do 31%

GingerPaste · 24/04/2025 21:55

About 29% (but the job is pretty poorly paid).

SquadGoals75 · 24/04/2025 21:59

Mine pay 35.3% (public sector)

creamcheeseandlox · 24/04/2025 22:17

I pay 13% and the government double it and pay about 26%. I work in the police. I can retire in 10 yrs when I'm 55.

Fatlittlefruits · 24/04/2025 22:40

Private sector - 4% and will match a further 6% for a max of 10%.

ChompinCrocodiles · 26/04/2025 08:57

10% with no employee contribution required. A further 7% voluntary match contribution, which I do.

For me:
Me - 7%
Employer - 17% (10% plus 7% match)
Total contribution = 24%

Private sector, defined contribution scheme.
