Terminated IVA

I was in an IVA for 2 years. They tried to increase my payments from £100 to £394. They would not accept my expenses at the annual review and after 6 months of arguing I terminated. Wouldn't accept how much dinner money I paid, didn't acknowledge sick days I didn't get paid for, that sort of thing. I think I was missold as my debts are only just £6000 and I was told it was my only option.

The guy I initially spoke to about a consolidation loan told me what to say on the phone and said not to declare certain things about my living arrangements, etc - I was so desperate at the time I went along with it. He told me what to say when they asked about other debt solution options but he never actually went through any other options with me, I still have all the notes from the phonecall. I have since made an official complaint about the original company I spoke to but they are no longer trading.

My question being has anyone else been through this?

I have had 2 of the original debts contact me and I have made a payment arrangement with them. It was more lots of little debts and I think if they contact me bit by bit I am now in a position to pay a few off in full. The 2 larger ones I have an offer in mind I can pay. If you have been through this did all of your debtors contact you to chase the initial debt? Looking online it says that some may not bother and just write it off.

The 2 that have contacted me have said they are not going to charge back interest, I have explained my situation and they have been very understanding.

I will pay whatever I need, I just feel like i've wasted 2 years of payments, my credit file is worse off now - I had no missed payments until i went onto the IVA. FWIW, it was during COVID i got myself into a mess and could never seem to get myself back out after that, wasn't furloughed, had months off, that sort of thing and it build from there.

Miss sold IVA's are very common.

Speak to Step Change or National Debtline about your options going forward.

Im starting to see this the more I look online, I have kept all my notes from my original call with the guy who got it rolling, but company is no longer trading.

I put a complaint in with the IVA company, who said the original guy who put me onto IVA company they had not heard of. I queried thought that their address was the same as the address of where the company was and didn't get a response to that. My credit file now has lots of missed payments so looks worse than it did when I started the IVA - I'm so angry with myself.
