I understand it in principle, but I'm struggling to picture how you would check the wholesale daily unit and daily standing charge price and apply the regional formula. Do you do this daily? What time? And then adjust when you use appliances/heating etc?😳

No, I just use my electricity and heating as normal. I think MSE says on average it’s been a good value tariff in recent years; certainly my bills seem a bit lower than with previous provider. But that can change.

You can sign up to Energy Price Notifier which emails you every day, e.g.

Today's energy prices for your region are as follows: 27/03/25 - Elec: 21.46p/kWh, Gas: 5.39p/kWh.

I use the Octo Aid app which amongst other things shows the next day prices around 11am, later in the afternoon for gas .
