Husband applying for mortgage

Hello. We are trying to buy our first house. I’m a stay at home mum. My husband will be solely responsible for the mortgage. Will lenders ask to see my bank statements ? Has anyone bought a house with their husband being the only person responsible for the mortgage ?

We did this as I was self employed and not very good credit, they did not need to see any of my information, I think I may have had to sign something re living in the house ,

That’s so helpful. Which bank was this ?

Do you feel you understand the financial implications of being married? And you being a stay at home mum?

I don’t really know where to begin unpicking this one but I’m worried you’re being clueless / naive? (Genuinely worried…. Not trying to be a troll)

What do you mean ? I just want to check what the bank will want to look at. I understand about being married

It's the other way around for us - I'm a SAHD and my wife the only one with a salary. Under advice from the broker we applied for the mortgage in joint names but declared my income as zero. If I recall we had to supply three months of bank statements for me.

We were advised to do it this way because apparently reposessing a property is more difficult when there is another non-defaulting adult residing in it and some banks don't like the extra risk.
