I could do that shop for 55 in Tesco. Depends on how you shop. 85 would be nicer quality

WTF is going on in England!?

We left the EU. 🤦‍♂️

Well I know that obviously but I was under the impression it was still cheaper to live there. Oh well..

MaltipooMama · 21/03/2025 06:47

This looks very similar to my kind of weekly shop! Mine normally comes in around £80 a week on average from Sainsbury’s (depending on how many of the items are on offer 😂)

Not a chance. The increase in tariffs, perpetrators, and heaven knows what else.

I am a veggie and Lidl is fab for fresh fruit & veg …

It was £85 in Tesco so close

Gosh, I shop in Tesco and don't think I look at prices and priced that at £85!

Chasingsquirrels · 21/03/2025 07:24

Totally depends on pack sizes, brands and quality.
A block of cheese could be anything from a tiny amount to a massive block.
Coffee could be small basic supermarket brand or bigger artisan.

Based on the pack sizes etc I'd buy, I'd say £50-55 in Aldi, and I'd expect more in other supermarkets.

I see you've said £85 in Tesco.

RobinEllacotStrike · 21/03/2025 07:25

About £55 in Lidl/Aldi
£67 in sainsburys
£634 in Waitrose / M&S

To be fair my supermarket shops in France, usually Intermarche, have not been cheaper than the UK for several years now.

ruralwanderer · 21/03/2025 07:26

£57?

Therealmetherealme · 21/03/2025 07:27

Around £65 Lidl to £75/85 Sainsbury’s. Really depends on brands and amounts, ie.4 tinned tomatoes, bag of coffee….

RobinEllacotStrike · 21/03/2025 07:27

Mind you even picking up a “few bits” in Lidl these days is expensive. Feels like I’m paying about 20% more these days. (Than say 2 years ago)

Member869894 · 21/03/2025 07:30

It's really shocking how much prices have risen. I was in Spain earlier this year and the food was so much cheaper and the quality of the fruit and veg vastly superior to ours. Very depressing

minnienono · 21/03/2025 07:31

£60 but I shop in Lidl

minnienono · 21/03/2025 07:31

I’m basing on mostly own brand but assuming you have branded tea

Kaleidoscope101 · 21/03/2025 07:34

I estimated £57 from Aldi

HelenWheels · 21/03/2025 07:35

£65

Chasingsquirrels · 21/03/2025 07:41

Even the tomatoes can make a massive difference.
I estimated £1.50 for Aldi basics - not far off the £1.56 (4 x 39p) for Tesco cheapest.
The most expensive is £5.25 without a clubcard.

Food bought from supermarkets is a lot ´more expensive in Spain and most European countries! It's much cheaper to eat out though in Spain.

RaspberryBeretxx · 21/03/2025 07:52

I thought £75 but a lot depends on the size of the packs and whether you get brand names or not.

HelenWheels · 21/03/2025 07:53

shopping is always more expensive than i expect, i add it up as i go, or as i put it on the conveyor belt

StupidBacteria · 21/03/2025 07:55

£100

Lovelysummerdays · 21/03/2025 07:55

£50-60 I shop in Aldi . That said everything is £££s now

The meat will be the most expensive but you could buy all this in Aldi or Lidl for £50-£60 easy.
