I had that as about £53-£55 from Asda.

Tesco prices are nuts higher at the moment, except for their very occasional Club Card 'bargain'.

AprilF00L · 21/03/2025 00:22

£100+...depends on the quality and weights of food you are buying.

Lavender2015 · 21/03/2025 00:23

I’ve been loyal to Tesco recently, glad I read this, may revisit Asda as this is eerily similar to my weekly shop.

Namechanger2578 · 21/03/2025 00:23

Around £60-90 depending on where you shop and whether or not you buy any branded products

midtownmum · 21/03/2025 00:25

$160 minimum, but I live in New York.

veganfortheanimals21 · 21/03/2025 00:25

No idea about the first bit as obviously I don't purchase dead animals or their excretions or ova. So cant help there. The rest would be from £50 - £60.

I added it up according to what I roughly know I pay in Waitrose less meat, tea and coffee, all of which I buy from independents, then punted another £25 to cover those.

Really since we've been in an inflationary economy I find that shopping at m&S/Waitrose is at least consistent and a lot of the time cheaper for basics, week on week.

Tesco can suck my cock with its three tier pricing. I want to buy food, not do maths GCSE.

My DP eats a lot of chicken and M&S 'higher welfare' chicken is the cheapest and best around tbh.

A 600g pack of HW chicken legs is £1.50, drumsticks £1.80 and thighs £2.75.

That's good to know! Much more expensive at Sainsbury's.

@veganfortheanimals21 do you need to use this thread to get your message across? . I have noticed that vegan alternatives are actually more expensive than meat and milk .

Ursulla · 21/03/2025 00:33

@AutumnTheCrow yeah m&S is really good for chicken. Also their steaks are a very reasonable price for what you get.

Waitrose is more pricey for meat overall - like I say I don't normally get mine from either m&S or Waitrose as I have a good butcher, but I've noticed. However I have seen that they do this three for £12 deal which covers meat, fish including salmon. Similar to what the Morrisons deal used to be five years ago but nicer and more food.

I used to be vegan for a few years. I don’t like the idea of consuming animal products either. I wish I didnt have to. But being vegan made me extremely tired. I couldn’t function during the day. I was on a number of different supplements to replace what I wasn’t getting from veganism. Which do tell you on the label they aren’t supposed to replace the nutrients from food.

I added up to around £52 at Aldi prices but depends on the size of the beef packs, whether it’s cheap tinned tomatoes or Mutti etc etc
I add up my food shop as I go round so pretty good with Aldi pricing!

notatinydancer · 21/03/2025 02:11

£70-75 Sainsbury’s

ArtyFartyQueen · 21/03/2025 02:16

£68

BlumminFreezin · 21/03/2025 02:24

We shop in Lidl...about £55 at Lidl prices I reckon.

** Just read it was £85...that's why we switched from Tesco to Lidl a few years ago 😂 I spent £95 in Lidl today and had a huge bulging trolley full for that!

Maitri108 · 21/03/2025 02:26

£71

Loveduppenguin · 21/03/2025 04:01

I’m in Ireland…I put that into my Tesco app and this is the price I got. WTF is going on in England!? That’s 56 WITHOUT using my Tesco club card so it would actually cost me 49…and I consider Tesco expensive!!

How much would you expect this food shop to cost
SendBooksAndTea · 21/03/2025 04:17

I guessed around £75-£95 before I read the answer. I think that sounds about right. There are too many variables to make accurate comparisons though, brand, packet, size, variety, quality etc will make a huge difference. Especially for things like meat, tea, coffee, cheese, fruit.

We've found Lidl to be no cheaper for what we buy, in fact the packet sizes tended to be smaller. Perhaps because we dont buy brands anyway? Asda we found to be really pricey for our shop.

Ukholidaysaregreat · 21/03/2025 04:25

I thought £59 ish. Need to swap to Lidl/Aldi

Loveduppenguin · 21/03/2025 04:29

Just for giggles I did the same shop In SuperValu (Irish owned supermarket) which is considered very expensive and the total was €63. Has the uk become more expensive that rep of Ireland?

Well England/UK is outside the EU which might be relevant but seeing as the OP hasn't specified brands or pack sizes it's impossible to answer the question with anything other than a wild guess.

6 eggs could cost anything between about £1.50 and £4 depending on whether they're the basic mixed size free range or large branded ones. Likewise for a lot of the other items, the difference between the cheapest and most expensive version could be 2/3/4 times the price.
