State pension letters?

Lifestooshort71 · 08/03/2025 09:26

Has anyone received their letter telling them what their state pension will be from April as we're trying to balance our budget for this year (thank you, Thames Water 😠). I know the percentage increase but mine has all sorts of odds and ends - 2 different SERPS, GRP and added SP (from when I deferred it). I've tried looking at my record online but am defeated!

Yes - mine arrived last week.

Mrs B had hers in the last week or so.

I'm also talking to people on other benefits who've had letters recently.

A couple of weeks ago.

Perhaps it goes by surname (I'm an S), perhaps postie hid it in a hedge, perhaps they think I've kicked the bucket? Patience, old girl, patience!

Yes. Got mine about 3 weeks ago.

Nothing for my parents yet (T surname). I was wondering the same thing…

That's reassuring so praps it is alphabetical?* *Thanks.

It definitely won't be alphabetical.
I believe they just pick batches at more or less random and print and post them on different days depending on the other workload. There are far too many to do in one go.

DaphneduM · 09/03/2025 09:18

It definitely isn't alphabetical. Husband had his weeks ago - still to receive mine!

AndWhoShallISayIsCalling · 09/03/2025 09:26

Same here. Husband got his probably 4 weeks ago, I've not had mine. (Different names - his first/second names beginning of alphabet, my first/second names end of alphabet.) He's a year younger than me so presumably not based on age either. I don't remember there being such a long gap previously although I do recall he has usually got his letter first, but by a matter of days not weeks.

There really is no logic to it - it's just random.

My understanding is that the DWP databases are generally indexed on NI Number, Date of Birth and Surname (which is what you'll be asked for if you phone up with a query), but the records aren't actually stored that way. For a mass mailing like the ones required to notify claimants of the annual benefit increases there is no need to send them out in any particular order, and so they'll just extract the required details in whatever order they happen to come in and then print and mail them out in batches over a few weeks as and when they can fit them in with other higher-priority stuff.

Thanks all. Patience has never been my strongest virtue!
