Hi,

Just need some advice so I had a car insurance renewal a week ago and it had gone down alot so it was £44 a month but then realised they had my old address down, I moved into this new address last year and know damn well I rang them and changed it, called them up and they realised it was their fuck up on their end so they changed it but now the renewal price has gone from £44 a month to £81!!!!!!!!! Like what the actual fuck? Because of a change of address can these robbing bastards actually do this? Can I fight this and demand I have the same price as quoted because it's not my fault that the address was not changed even though I rang them? Also the new house has its own off road parking and private drive it's a cul de sack so I don't get how it's can go up so much I've also got a 6 year no claims bonus.

I'm fuming!!!! Like literally mad 😡😡

Have you asked if they can explain the different risk factors between the addresses?

I fear you'll just have to suck it up until renewal as cancelling mid term is ruinously expensive.

I'm not cancelling this it's a renewal price. I haven't agreed to it as it's not due til the 13th of march,

I've looked at renewals on go compare, they are coming up as £67 and on but with a black box. I'm not having a black box, I don't get how they can charge me this much I honestly don't. £44 to now £81 it's disgusting, I will ring them next week when I'm calmer as I've had a shit show of a week and that was the cherry on the cake.

Post code is a big factor in the price of car insurance whether it's a good area or a bad area. Fifteen years ago, I moved back to my county and stayed with a family member in our village for the first few months. My insurance premium went up a silly amount so I enquired as to why. I was told the village is in an "affluent" area and for that reason there are lots of expensive vehicles on the road. They argued that if I were to hit one of these vehicles, it would be expensive to fix. I counter argued that as I had not been involved in an RTA for the very long period I'd held a driving licence, that this rationale was ridiculous. I changed insurer and got a better deal although it was still more expensive than my previous postcode.

Charcoalpen · 01/03/2025 15:13

So if you get a black box with an alternative you’ll save £15

but no black box.., presumably in line with new current quote

Charcoalpen · 01/03/2025 15:19

Ariesburn · 01/03/2025 15:04

@Charcoalpen how is that a threat? 🤦🏼‍♀️

Huh?

Charcoalpen · 01/03/2025 15:19

Ariesburn · 01/03/2025 14:53

It was this utterly bizarre post I was referring to

It sounds like the premium they've quoted is broadly in line with what other companies would charge you so there's no "rip off". You need to calm down.

Bromptotoo · 01/03/2025 15:27

Sorry I assumed you'd started a policy and then had them bump up the premium.

If it's just a quote and you're renewals still a few days off renewal you just need to do some legwork on the comparison sites. Also remember some big names like Direct Line and LV don't use those sites and may be worth a try.

DL gave me a good price in 2019 after an own fault write off; repairs too expensive. Last month LV were best after changing from an eight year old car worth £8k to a nearly new one at nearer £20k.

Correct

Ilikewinter · 01/03/2025 15:36

It's all about the postcode ...... I've just moved house and I got £176 refund !!! ..... needless to say I'm over the moon !

Doggymummar · 01/03/2025 15:40

That's mad. mine is 170.00 for the whole year including breakdown cover. Shop around

Sinkintotheswamp · 01/03/2025 15:40

Your insurance will be higher in an area with a higher crime rate. I have to put up with the same.
This is partly due to thick as shit neigbours who don't lock their cars, leave items on display or lock their houses. It does make me angry that because of their stupidity I pay more for my insurance.

This.

Well known that a BIG factor in your Premium is your postcode.
It works both ways. When my dd moved out of our house and into her own, her premium was just over half what it had been.

You could look at it that you have actually benefitted by not paying the increased premiums you should have been paying from when you first moved. Their mistake was to your benefit.

mitogoshigg · 01/03/2025 15:42

And op, have you changed your driving licence address? It not matching your residence can cause issues.

Which reiterates how vastly different it is for different postcodes.

I shop around every year. I have over 30 yrs NCD (and the claim we had to make was when our parked car was hit). I can't get my premium much below £300.

I think it's supposed to read "if you dont like this THREAD....."

NewsdeskJC · 01/03/2025 16:35

The quotes are based on 2 things.

  1. Data- age, address, use, type of car, convictions, accidents
  2. How you fit into each underwriters criteria In your shoes I would look to see if I can get cheaper elsewhere and cancel this one.
WeAllHaveWings · 01/03/2025 16:36

Post codes make a huge difference, ds(21) friend lives just 4 miles down the road from us and his insurance is double what ds pays (£800 vs £1600) because of his post code (we tried ds's details at friends post code and the quotes rocketed).

StMarie4me · 01/03/2025 16:50

I've been with this company since a year after I passed. The price is a joke

As my son says, and I think he's right.

They don't want you any more. The odds of you being due an accident are high simply because you've not had one.

Just ring round.

And learn to manage your emotions better.

RiderOfTheBlue · 01/03/2025 17:18

The odds of you being due an accident are high simply because you've not had one.

That's not how probability works. There's not an predetermined number of accidents for each person. It's multifactorial but the fact that someone hasn't had an accident for a while doesn't increase their chances of having one.

Doggymummar · 01/03/2025 17:24

Charcoalpen · 01/03/2025 15:43

Aviva currently but the renewal is Saga

Theunamedcat · 01/03/2025 17:36

Honestly when I was trying to insure a ford I shopped around extensively because they wanted to charge me almost two THOUSAND pounds for a fucking fiesta the justification was someone stole a fiesta within two miles of my address within the last 3 years I got it down to 400 with a random online company but I decided not to have it in the end just in case i faced this bullshit every year

Bought a Renault no-one wants to steal it

CarpetKnees · 01/03/2025 20:58

The odds of you being due an accident are high simply because you've not had one.

That made me laugh Grin

It really, really, isn't how it works.
