Hi so I’m due to finish getting maternity allowance in may I’ve recently changed over to universal credit I know we are entitled to a year off work I was wondering if for the last 4 months my universal credit payment would go up if I took the whole year off? My husband cannot work as he is disabled.

If you were paid Maternity Allowance by the DWP your UC will reduce £/£ for the amount of MA you get.

So when MA UC will go up by the same amount so your total monthly income should be the same.

Hi guys just looking for some advice, I’m having my second baby in August and do not qualify for SMP through my job. I’m currently on UC and have been reading the posts about maternity allowance and whether it’s worth applying for or not. My question is on GOV UK website is that “you may get an extra UC amount for your children whether you get Marty allowance or not” does this mean you can claim maternity allowance and the UC amount for children not be affected? Hope this makes sense! Can’t work out the best thing to do!
