anyone ever been DeBanked?

After finding myself the wrong side of a bank, who I've been fighting them for a while.. I spoke to a friend of mine who pointed me here. His exact words " You need to put this on mumsnet, cos that place will have an opinion on what's happened to you... "

So firstly has anyone on here ever been #DeBanked, cos my story should serve as a warning to anyone that is a customer of a high street bank.

post your questions and buckle up for a story that will make your hair turn white... fall out and raise more questions than it anwers

my background I'm a nobody, yet my bank chose to debank me, and sieze all my families money after a near fatal accident... and this could happen to you.

more to follow, it's been a long day and I just introduced myself a few hours ago.

@PebbleJus that’s barking mad

Yup. And because he’s busy abroad, has other sources of income and is quite a procrastinator, he hasn’t really done anything about it other than phone a few local solicitors who weren’t interested.

I survived what has been deemed impossible... :)

Are you saying they didn’t believe you were who you said you were?

LittleRob · 04/02/2025 01:50

but i'm not a drugs cartel, I'm not farage... I'm just a nobody that had a job, got killed, survived... bit bloody annoying... if I'm honest! Then found himself at the nine lace holes end of the largest high street bank in the UK... who later on in this story admitted to simply "lying" but accoriding to them "well it was a long time ago!"

This sums it up perfectly.

Completely unbelievable as well as insanely dull.

Rob, the fact is, people get paid compensation all the time and they did not (no really they didn't) debank you because of that.

A 500k legal bill? Really? On this type of thing who did you hire? Why did you stick with them when their costs started spiralling? Why didn't you go no win no fee? If insurance is the reason surely you're insurance pays them and this isn't owed by you at all?

Who is rocking around with just one bank account with just one bank? I literally have three so if one bank do something that messes it up or places a stop on my card thinking it's been stolen (they did this when I went to visit a friend in a different part of the UK) then I can just use the other account. And several business accounts. If you have your own business and are self employed, an LLC isn't anything to do with you personally, so why would they close the business account? Also surely if you pay yourself you can do it however you like eg in cash or to your wifes bank account.

Get one of those weird online accounts they give tobloody anybody, at one of the less traditional banks.

so much does not add up

It was a play on the autocorrect in your first sentence Wink but it does indeed sound barking mad.

SomethingUniqueThisTime · 04/02/2025 01:54

Maybe they debanked you because of some perceived risk to them after your accident, rather than fraud. If you had a mortgage with them which you could no longer pay after the accident were they keeping your other money as security?

It does sound terribly harsh and unscrupulous.

Don't want to be rude but you do sound very erratic and a bit poor at clearly communicating the whole story, so it’s hard to understand exactly what has happened.

PebbleJus · 04/02/2025 01:54

Oh right! I only just noticed that.

PebbleJus · 04/02/2025 01:55

That’s to TheFatCatsWhiskers1.

NOPE...

No need to shout!

Why do you think you were debanked? I thought I was getting somewhere but now it seems I wasn’t and I’m confused again. Story of my life.

Edited

it's more than likely this reason, I have suffered a TBI. (traumatic brain injury) my way of being as dramatically changed from before.

but this raises the question if they broke their contract with me who is to blame..?

That's what TBIs do

Welcome to Mumsnet where we don’t suffer fools gladly. This story has more holes in it than a crumpet.

So is it because they thought you should be under a guardianship or conservatorship due to the TBI?

what did your legal representatives tell you about this? Where is the money now?

TheFatCatsWhiskers1 · 04/02/2025 02:00

I took a zopiclone half an hour ago. I just know that in the morning I’ll have no recollection of this thread ever happening.

sorry, but some folks can't grasp the issue...

risk could have been an issue for the bank..? however they now have broken their contract created a debt and kinda fancy taking my home...

so the question and it's kafka-esc how would you deal with being told you don't exist..?

I don’t think they will have broken their contract - somewhere in their terms and conditions will be conditions that permit them to freeze your accounts if you owe them money on another account.

Starlia · 04/02/2025 02:01

Did you own your home at the time of the accident and had a mortgage with the bank? Did they try to call in their mortgage?

Meecrowahvey · 04/02/2025 02:02

When did the bank tell you you don't exist? Confused

Some of us can't grasp the issue because you are not making any sense.

So the issue is they think you are dead and have commenced handing your accounts as if they are part of a deceased estate?

SomethingUniqueThisTime · 04/02/2025 02:04

If you have defaulted on the mortgage they can indeed take steps to repossess your house.

no I wasn't told anything, it took 10 years to workout what happened to me. The money disappeared at the begining...!

the later the bank claimed I never had a bank account, so they couldn't have ever debanked me. Which was awkward as I had statements from them so they admitted to lying but "well it was such a long time ago" according to them...

so how would you deal with that..?

Well I guess when I realised I had lost a whole chunk of money I would have sought immediate legal advice, especially if I had documents proving my side of the story.

have you ever asked them to trace the money if it disappeared from your accounts?

SomethingUniqueThisTime · 04/02/2025 02:08

The money from your accounts was probably used to pay part of your mortgage arrears.
