Adding husband as named driver insurance

Hi

Adding husband as named driver (provisional only). With the hope of taking him out to drive in quiet areas to practice.

It would be £67 for me alone.

But with him added it's £55. To be honest I was expecting it to shoot up.

Have I done this correctly? Is that all there is to it or do I need to be doing/checking something else?

Thank you

Call the insurer and ask them to check.

Adding my then 17yo daughter to my insurance for the same reason was pretty cheap.

Very different after she passed her test and 'went solo'.

Randomly our car insurance is cheaper with my FIL as an extra driver (he drives it once a month or so). But he's an experienced driver.

That's pretty common. My son's went down when he tried to add me temporarily so I could take his car to get tyres done. Cheaper just to make me a named driver.

I drove it to get the tyres done and again at Xmas when he had 'bitten off more than he could chew' on a 200 mile round trip.

Yes that is normal. Insurance companies see it as 'spreading the risk' even though named driver is on a provisional licence. As already said above the premium will shoot up when they pass their test and can drive alone
