25% mid contract rise?

I have a 12 month contract with my local gym. The price I signed up for was £72 a month. I just got an email saying it is going up to £90 a month. That’s a 25% increase in the middle of my contract.

The contract itself has a vague clause that says that prices can rise mid term. But surely 25% is taking the pi££? Can I fight this?

No you can't. You can ask them for a discount but unlikely they will give it to you. Sadly they can do what they like. The way they see it is if you don't like it, you can go to another gym, with the hope that the increase in remaining customer will make up the difference. Same with anything, fuel, rent, phone contracts, broadband, etc- their smallprint will be bulletproof.
