endless threads about money

endless threads about people's dh's 'giving' them money for teh children/ spending the family money on twattage

will you just please all get it sorted DO IT MY WAY

all money that comes into house is joint money

you both have same amount of money to spend on fun - put in a separate account one for you one for him

you can buy books/ make-up/ Bacardi Breezers he can go to karate/ football matches/ buy magazines about bikes

when your fun budget is done you do not spend holiday fund/ children's clothes money/ food money/ take out loans in secret

JUST GET IT SORTED AND ALL THE WORLD WILL LIVE IN HARMONY FOREVER MORE

We've always pooled resources, ever since we met as students many, many years ago.

If I suggested to DH BTW that he had his own account for money to spend on "fun" he'd think I was bonkers.

AlbertaWildRose · 02/05/2008 13:53

I completely agree with wannaBe. DH and I both work, but he earns way more than I do, as I am part-time and otherwise at home with DS. We have had one joint account since we moved in together eons ago in our early twenties. Our marriage is an equal partnership, all money earned is OUR money, not his or mine.

Cappuccino · 02/05/2008 13:56

see these women - they are your Role Models

WowOoo · 02/05/2008 13:59

Our income all goes into joint account. But, we also have our own money (what very little is left over) that we can spend on fun. If one of us is particularly flush - am sure this actually happened once - it can go into a savings account. These are most def separate, but we'll prob spend it on a family holiday anyway. I only work part time but am much better at spending money and grabbing a bargain!!

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 02/05/2008 14:02

My motto is 'What's his is mine, and what's mine's me own'.

brimfull · 02/05/2008 14:02

I want a rosette too.
We do the same as wannabe .
We would both like some more "fun money" though.

FAQ · 02/05/2008 14:03

actually I earned considerably less that H did when I was working, even with the TC and CB paid into my account I still had a LOT less money going in. All of the household bills (gas, electric, water, etc etc) went out of my account except for the mortgage and council tax which he paid....I also used to do the grocery shopping out of it too.

But most months I would still end up with more spending money that he did and often ended up giving him £40-50 too

MrsTittleMouse · 02/05/2008 14:07

We never got the whole your money/my money thing either. We had a joint account as soon as we moved in together, which completely freaked out my friends who were worried that he would run off with everything! He didn't () and now that I'm a SAHM I'm really grateful that we always had this arrangement.
We don't have separate "fun money" accounts though. Small things we just buy, and larger things we talk about.

Cappuccino · 02/05/2008 14:08

I've got loads of 'em

I saved up, you know

OP posts:
unknownrebelbang · 02/05/2008 14:09

What's his is mine, and mine's my own.

Well, it works for me...

unknownrebelbang · 02/05/2008 14:09

pmsl, see saggars is the same.

motherinferior · 02/05/2008 14:12

OK, so some of you pool your money. Bully for you. I don't. I have separate finances (including my work account) and separate savings. My partner and I also have a joint account into which we both pay, every month. It works for us.

I'm really sick, actually, of other people lecturing me on Partnerships and Teams and how it's all about Trust

Cappuccino · 02/05/2008 14:14

oh I am not trying to lecture you mi far from it

it is threads like this that piss me off

and teh bloke the other day going to Moscow for the footy but couldn't afford a family holiday

sick of these threads

OP posts:
mumblechum · 02/05/2008 14:14

Hear hear Mother Inferior, me too.

People should mind their own bleeding business imo.

Cappuccino · 02/05/2008 14:15

I am doing good here, people!

OP posts:
motherinferior · 02/05/2008 14:15

Oh yes, but my solution to that is to HAVE YOUR OWN MONEY.

At which point I get shouted down for Lack of Trust.

Cappuccino · 02/05/2008 14:16

if you hadn't noticed mumble, the thread is aimed at women who are being taken advantage of by blokes

not at women who have sorted it out already

OP posts:
WowOoo · 02/05/2008 14:17

Have to admit that I hated the arrangement at first and really hated having to justify my spending to him before we had children.
I haven't really got a leg to stand on now if I want to treat myself.

Cappuccino · 02/05/2008 14:17

fair enough, but aren't you turning into Xenia, mi?

we decided I would go part-time to look after kids. I work very hard at it. So why should I not be able to afford Clinique eye-shadow, eh?

OP posts:
FAQ · 02/05/2008 14:17

on the one hand women should make sure they're financially independent (in case of a split, etc etc), on the other they're being told to "pool" their resources......

Well which is it?

Either they're financially independent or they're not..........

mumblechum · 02/05/2008 14:18

I know, but it would drive me up the wall not earning my own money. If people choose not to earn their own living, they can't moan about not having any money. IMO.

WowOoo · 02/05/2008 14:19

So, fathers should not be able to do this either...

motherinferior · 02/05/2008 14:19

I do see that different arrangements work for different people. I just don't madly do Being A Partnership and Mutual Decisions, actually.

I've made some work decisions, and so has my partner. We kind of inform each other about them, not agree. Ahem.

Cappuccino · 02/05/2008 14:20

what about SAHMs, mumble?

do they deserve no money?

does feminism only apply if you work above 36 hours a week?

we are talking about blokes who have had a family spending money that could be spent on a family holiday/ food/ clothes on his leisure pursuits

how is that fair?
