NHS pension: what is the significance it commenced before or after 2015?

I do remember getting a HR email acouple of years ago to discuss pension changes.

What is the significance of 2015?

I was working as a Bank HCA for a while before 2015. I didn't think I was paying into a pension. I found an old payslip whilst moving boxes for Christmas and it turns out I did pay.

What is the significance if your NHS pension commenced before or after 2015?
