Maternity pay confusion

Just wandering if anyone has any advice ?!
I am currently on maternity leave and have just received my pay slip which shows a decrease in wage which was unexpected as was supposed to be on full pay for 2 months.
Messaged my payroll department to clarify why a dip in my pay and they had made an error and rectified this and that from the 23rd Dec I move to half pay ?! This has come completely to my surprise as was under the impression that I was on half pay plus smp going forward.

I have a letter that confirms the start of my maternity etc and the terms.
"18 weeks at half pay reduced only where half pay plus any smp or MA payable exceeds full pay.
This to me means I get half pay plus smp etc ?! Help !!!!

Yes you should be on half pay plus SMP from whenever you're expecting to go to half pay. They may make an adjustment if this causes you to exceed your normal full pay. Definitely one to question with them as you should get one week SMP from 23rd Dec assuming this half pay date is right.

Thanks so much for your reply 😊 just wanted to make sure I wasn't going mad as wanted to make sure I hadn't misunderstood the "18 weeks at half pay reduced only where half pay plus any smp or MA payable exceeds full pay"
In all honestly pay roll are absolutely useless and when they rectified my pay then followed it by " you will move to half pay from the 23rd Dec it didn't sound too promising and really through me off. 🙃
