App for recording expenses

I'd like to start recording every penny I spend so I can track better, and I want to record it myself so I know eg my total sainsburys bill included some food, a gift, pyjamas for me, cat food etc, rather than just being recorded ad "groceries". I don't want an app to have access to my bank accounts and select the category itself. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm considering doing it on paper but thought an app might be easier.

I recommend using Excel.

that's a good idea. I don't have a laptop or experience with excel but I've just found it on my phone and might try work it out. thank you

I use Money Tracker. (Look in the App store. Yellow logo).
It's not linked to any bank account.
There are categories for spends (transport, clothes, snacks, groceries etc) and income and
you can write notes against your purchase.
It'll show you your daily spend and then a monthly breakdown by category.
