Never had ESA how does it work with UC?

Can anyone tell me, I've never had esa and don't know much about it.

I was going through the Entitledto site tonight and somewhere it said I may be entitled to esa as well as UC, if I have LCW which currently is likely to be the case (got to complete the assessment form)

Is this right, does anyone know? I lost the page as I'm up really late due to a lot of worries atm and trying to work stuff out. I thought it was either one or the other.

Thanks

You will not be any better off in cash terms claiming ESA as well as UC. They're both intended to provide for a basic standard of living and if you get ESA UC is reduced £/£. However, ESA is paid fortnightly which for some people helps budgeting/cashflow and on ESA you're credited with class 1 NI conts which can be useful down the line. UC gives class 3 which only help with the Pension.
