Hi all. So I’m new on here and just looking for a little advice as google doesn’t seem to be specific enough… Firstly, there’s no hard feelings between anyone so I’m not here to slate or badmouth anyone. I just want to get things in order…. My stepdaughter turns 18 next month and finishes college in May….Shell be going to uni in September and we’ve already sorted what we’re doing money wise then and she will not be left without at all. So my question is… When does maintenance stop?? Will it be in her birthday? When she finishes college in May? Or when she starts Uni in September??? Xx

The end of August.

August and then from September it'll switch to whatever the financial agreement is for supporting her at university

Ok thank you. Can I just ask why August if she finishes in May? Again not a problem we just want to make sure we’re doing it all correctly and understand the reasons why x

Because maintainance is while in full time education. Her birthday may be midyear but she's still going to be at school so not suddenly earning enough to support herself.

School year ends at end of August. That will also be when she gets her results. It's the same for everything. Otherwise single parents would have to declare their over 18yo children every summer after A levels and during uni until the next academic year.

Child benefit ceases the first Monday in September. Maintenance also ceases when child benefit entitlement ends.
Also don’t forget that maintenance through cms is usually paid a month in arrears so there may be some roll
over until October. You may have to think about when maintenance was first paid for dsd if it’s a private arrangement if it’s in arrears - I appreciate remembering things for 18 years ago maybe a struggle!

August aligns with child benefit and she can't sign on between may and September because she's still deemed to be in full time education albeit it's the summer holidays
