LCWRA & PIP & CARERS

Hi, I have been a carer since 2023 for my child who gets dla, however ever since April 2024 I have been diagnosed with a condition that affects my joints and mental health. I was told to apply for pip to which I now receive however UC has sent me a lcwra form and I have completed but now am unsure if I am allowed to claim this. I do not receive the carer element from UC as I receive carers allowance. Can you please help me clarify if this will affect my other benefits.

You should still get the Carer Element in UC even if you're paid Carer's Allowance as it increases UC payable by £198.31/month.

You cannot get paid both the LCfWRA and Carer Elements for the same claimant. If you're found to have LCfWRA you'll get the element instead of Carer and be approx £220/month better off.

Carer's Allowance is unaffected but UC will, as now, be reduced £/£ for it.

I get PIP and UC and have LCWRA. I get the LCWRA element but not Carer's element. Carer's Allowance is deducted from my UC but I like to claim it on principle as I'm entitled and use it as proof of being a carer, and it also gives me Class 1 NI contributions.

It's a shame you haven't been claiming the Carer's element as you would have been better off, as a pp says. I would seek advice from CAB to see if you can get it backdated.

Please I cannot understand what is going on. So I have been awarded lcwra high component which should be £416 additionally on top of the UC payment which is £1217 with disabled child and carers deducted as I am unsure whether to claim it or not. Now my payments have been upped to £1367 which includes the lcwra but I am still being deducted. Why is this happening. I understand the care component being taken off but why mess with my lcwra payment.

What does the deduction say it’s for on your statement, carers allowance?

You can’t have both the lcwra and carers element in your UC payment. You get lcwra as it’s higher than carers element

@shejokes11 I can't easily reconcile that on the back of an envelope using what you've said so far. Please can you tell us exactly what your statement says?
