Financial split ?

Has anyone else been in a situation where one partner has significantly more in income, and the other more in assets? What’s a fair way to split joint expenses in this situation?

and how about when one of those people is pregnant/ not working/ not eligible for maternity pay? Should I be eating into my assets during that time? (My initial thought is… no)

Just looking to learn how other people approach working out what is fair. thank you !

Are you married?

Fair depends on the situation really and depends on the difference in income, who has what available. There’s no rule that says one partner has to fund the other’s maternity leave, that’s something you agreed between you so for example we’re married and I’m currently on maternity leave, our finances are fully shared so we saved money when planning for a baby and our household income jointly funds everything.
