What happens to my universal credit when my maternity ends? Do I have to contact them or will my pay go back to normal when it ends?

Are you asking what happens when statutory/contractual maternity pay ends but you have not returned to work?

Mia124 · 15/10/2024 18:56

No sorry so I did not pay enough national insurance so I got paid government maternity and got paid less UC. When my maternity ends will my UC go back to what it was before?

When MA ends UC will increase by the £797.46/month it is reduced while you get MA. Overall your income should be the same.

Caveats apply regarding the benefit cap, partner's earnings etc.

Yes it will go back to normal as there will be no deductions for the maternity allowance.

And will this be done automatically after I let them know my start date? Or do I have to do anything?

I'd let them know via your journal that MA has ended and on what date.

If by start date you mean you're going back to work you should let them know that too. However earnings details reported by the employer to HMRC should be passed to UC.
