Lucky enough to be paying off our mortgage next year due to an inheritance, it's going to be a life change event for us .

When we come to paying it off will the bank ask for proof of when the money has come from , I. E probate , death certificates ??

No. Mine didn’t.

Just speak to them. If you are paying in a large amount then you may have to give proof of where the funds have come from. The bank has to comply with Anti-Money Laundering regulations.

No. I paid ours down by £300k in a series of transactions over a week and they didn’t ask anything. As an ex banking lawyer I was concerned they might not be following their own AML procedures but they never followed up!

depends
our bank asked us when we made a large overpayment (more than 10k) but that was easy enough for us to prove.

we paid ours off two weeks ago HURRAH and didn’t get asked…but we did go in and write them a cheque (yes, I know, very old fashioned). If we had made the payment online the question about where the money came from might have come up…I’m not sure?

Thanks , we have everything if they need it , probate soon , but all the documents regarding where it comes from , it will be in the region of £190k .

Just needed an idea of what they may want .
