Maternity pay confusion

hoping someone can help me understand my maternity pay. This is the first month I am on leave. My employer provides enhanced pay at 9 weeks full pay and 9 weeks 2/3s. This month i didn’t get my usual full pay. I have queried it but the reply was it should all work out over the year and depends if a month has 4/5 weeks as to how much you get. I don’t really understand this. Why don’t i just get my usual monthly pay for 2 months and then it changes depending on enchanced/smp?

SMP is paid weekly so it can differ month to month depending on whether there are 4/5 weeks in a month but I wouldn’t have thought that would impact your pay while they are topping it up to full as they should top up the extra. Are you paid the same amount every month?

Yep paid the same every month and was very confused that I received less this month 🤷🏻‍♀️
