Cashing a US-Dollar check question

Dh has just been sent a check from Bank of America in US Dollars (reimbursment for interview expenses). Here in Germany he's have to pay it into his bank and they would charge him of course a small fee. He was thinking he could maybe cash it in when he goes to the US or would he need a bank account there to do that?

You would have to pay a small fee when cashing it in the US as well so there is little point. I'd do it sharpish too, the dollar is getting weaker by the week!

Thanks, that's what I thought! Dh's brother in the US is a banker but he was too proud to ask him! Good idea about doing it sharpish too, think I might go and change some spending money next week.
