does anyone work in a bank???

really confused cos i discovered i had lost my direct debit card today so i rang up to report it lost to be told it had already been cancelled cos it was damaged and a new one was on it's way. now i know for sure i haven't reported it damaged. the only thing i can think of is someone found it and took it to my bank and they cancelled it for me, but surely they would contact me to say they had got it?

If someone has handed it in, the bank may well have cancelled the card and destroyed it, to be on the safe side. Safer to cancel it and order you a new one to avoid the risk of it being misused.

oh so cos they've destroyed it counts as damaged. gotcha! wish they'd have rung me up and told me. could have saved a whole lot of embarassbent in h&m today!
